Human rights demo in Nepal

Human rights activists in Nepal have staged a demonstration in the capital, Kathmandu, calling on the authorities to set up a national human rights commission.

They want the government to implement an act of parliament adopted three years ago which made provision for the creation of such a body.

The activists want the proposed commission to investigate cases of human rights violations related to the continuing insurgency by Maoist rebels.

Police briefly arrested more than two dozen activists during the demonstration.
