Fighting breaks out in Mogadishu

Reports from Somalia say that six people were killed and 10 wounded when armed militia clashed with law enforcement officers of an Islamic court in Mogadishu.

Fighting broke out over the weekend when rival militias attacked a new Islamic court and were met with resistance by the court's own security forces.

Correspondents point out that the Islamic courts are the only means of keeping order in the Somali capital, and they are supported by local businessmen.
