Liberian eye-witness reports massacre

There are reports from northern Liberia of a massacre in a church during fighting in the area.

A man who fled the fighting in Lofa County earlier this month said the killings were carried out by Liberian dissidents. The man told the independent Concord newspaper that the dissidents first ordered displaced people sheltering in the church in Voinjama to pray for them, and then asked to see church leaders.

When they were told that the church leaders were not there, the dissidents opened fire. It's not clear how many people died.
