Sudanese politicians acquitted

A Sudanese court has acquitted eleven opposition politicians who had been charged with disturbing public order.

The charge followed a meeting at which they announced the formation of a new political party, the Democratic Forces Front.

The judge said there was no evidence they had disturbed public order as the meeting had taken place in a private office.

He added that the court was not concerned with the legality of the meeting or the party.

After the hearing, the defendants told a news conference in Khartoum they would continue to struggle for democracy and human rights.
