Suspected Kashmiri militant leader killed
Police in Indian-administered Kashmir say they have killed a senior member of a prominent militant group, Hizbul Mujahideen. They say the dead man, Nasirullah Malik, was killed in Srinagar on Monday night, during a grenade attack on a police patrol. However, relatives of Mr Malik say he was killed in an encounter that was set up by the security forces. The police say one of their posts in Old Srinagar was attacked with grenades and gunfire soon after a funeral ceremony for Mr Malik. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
