Chennai, Monday (PTI) - The Government of Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu on Sunday banned a meeting of an organisation considered to be pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and arrested its leader P Nedumaran for attempting to hold the meeting in defiance of prohibitory orders in Cuddalore district.
About 200 volunteers of Thamizhar Desiya Iyakkam (Tamils Nationalist Movement) were also arrested along with Nedumaran, police here said.
The State government had earlier refused permission to the movement for holding the conference to extend support to the cause of 'Eelam'. The conference had been organised on behalf of the Coordination Committee of Tamil Eelam supporters. Earlier in the day an official release said the conference was banned as the government apprehended "disruption to peace and tranquillity in the town".
