Cameroon secessionist leader 'temporarily' freed
Six members of an English-speaking secessionist movement in Cameroon have been released after fourteen months in detention. But the authorities said the release of the members of the Southern Cameroon National Council was only temporary, and investigations were continuing. The men had been charged with high treason after they proclaimed English-speaking Cameroon independent, and hoisted the flag of the former federal republic. One of those released, Chief Ottun Ayamba, said they would not rest until the grievances of the anglophone community had been settled. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
